Scandinavian Airport and Road Systems AB (SARSYS)

SARSYS otherwise known as Scadinavian Airport and Road Systems AB is a global forerunner in producing high quality friction testing equipment for use on runways and roads. Runway friction testing is highly important as this gives an indication as to how safe the runway is for aircraft to take off and landing, therefore a vital service to ensure safe air travel.

SARSYS originated from the friction tester research and development work carried out by SAAB automobiles since the 1970's. The friction tester research was very successful and many of the original team who worked for SAAB are now bringing their knowledge and years of experience to SARSYS.

Friction Testing Machine

SARSYS offer two types of friction testing machine. The first is built into a SAAB 9-5 wagon for ultimate versatility and manoeuvrability. This setup allows for one friction testing machine to quickly and easily visit a number of airports in the area and take readings. The SARSYS Friction Tester is built into the large rear luggage space but still retains enough space for the vehicle to remain practical. The position of the friction testing machine also allows easy access for servicing and maintenance tasks.

Airport Runway Safety

The second item of runway friction testing equipment from SARSYS comes in the form of a trailer. It features the same technologies as those used in the SAAB 9-5 wagon but is able to be used by any vehicle with a tow bar. Along with the friction tester the trailer includes a computer with printer and keyboard, heaters for the electrical systems, two batteries and a battery charger. The computer system is the STMC Wireless or SARSYS SC2000 and will record measurements in line with ICAO and FAA regulations ensuring recognised airport runway safety reports.

To confirm all SARSYS equipment is as effective as it can be the equipment is design to meet the regulations FAA (150-5200-30C), ICAO (Annex 14) and ISO 8349, CAP 683. To ensure consistent quality SARSYS also work in accordance with the ISO 9000:2000 / 9001:2001.
