Manchester International Airport Northern International Gateway
A true international gateway, Manchester Airport presently connects over 225 destinations worldwide - more than any other UK airport, including Heathrow.
In 2007, the airport handled 22.1 million passengers. The airport is well-connected to local and national road and rail links. It is served by two runways – the second being opened in 2001 after a long-running and controversial public inquiry.
The airport is operated by the Manchester Airport Group (MAG) - which also owns Nottingham-East Midlands Airport, Bournemouth Airport and Humberside Airport.
- T1 handles international flights.
- T2 handles most European and intercontinental flights.
- T3 handles short-haul domestic flights.
Earlier in 2008, the first phase of a £35m redevelopment of T1 was completed when a new security hall was opened. Passengers arriving at T1 now pass through security screening immediately after check-in, before going airside. Future developments include a new Air Traffic Control tower, due for completion in 2009/2010.
Manchester Airport also has a busy cargo terminal served by 10 major freight airlines.
