Manchester International Airport Northern International Gateway

A true international gateway, Manchester Airport presently connects over 225 destinations worldwide - more than any other UK airport, including Heathrow.

In 2007, the airport handled 22.1 million passengers. The airport is well-connected to local and national road and rail links. It is served by two runways – the second being opened in 2001 after a long-running and controversial public inquiry.

The airport is operated by the Manchester Airport Group (MAG) - which also owns Nottingham-East Midlands Airport, Bournemouth Airport and Humberside Airport.

Terminal Information

Manchester Airport Terminal There are three terminals at Manchester – all of which are connected by the airport’s ‘Skylink’ moving walkway system.

  • T1 handles international flights.
  • T2 handles most European and intercontinental flights.
  • T3 handles short-haul domestic flights.

Earlier in 2008, the first phase of a £35m redevelopment of T1 was completed when a new security hall was opened. Passengers arriving at T1 now pass through security screening immediately after check-in, before going airside. Future developments include a new Air Traffic Control tower, due for completion in 2009/2010.

Manchester Airport also has a busy cargo terminal served by 10 major freight airlines.

A huge range of flights are available from Manchester.

From T1, destinations include: Abu Dhabi, Alicante, Athens, Barcelona, Basel, Calgary, Cancun, Copenhagen, Corfu, Dalaman, Dublin, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Helsinki, Ibiza, Larnaca, Mahon, Malaga, Malta, Milan, Munich, Nice, Palma de Mallorca, Paphos, Reykjavik, Rhodes, Rome, Sharm el-Sheikh, Stockholm, Toronto, Tripoli.

From T2, destinations include: Amsterdam, Atlanta, Doha, Dubai, Goa, Islamabad, Jeddah, Karachi, Ljubljana, Male, Nassau, New York JFK, Orlando, Paris CDG, Prague, Singapore, Tel Aviv.

From T3, destinations include Brussels, Chicago, Geneva, Las Vegas, Lisbon, Luxembourg, Madrid and all UK airports.

Car Parks

Manchester Airport is well-served by car parks – with a variety of short and long stay options. There are over 21,000 car parking spaces available at the airport.

Manchester Airport is easily accessible. It is located just off the M56 motorway, and has its own dedicated approach road from Junction 5. The airport is connected to the UK’s national rail network – it has its own dedicated railway station, and is connected to Manchester’s Metrolink light rail transport system.

Airport Duty Free

Manchester Airport has a wide range of leisure and shopping attractions, including duty free stores in all three terminals.

Duty free stores include Alpha Airport Shopping and Biza. Both stores offer significant savings on high-street brands, including up to 40% on alcohol and tobacco at Alpha.

Each terminal includes well-known high-street retailers selling everything from last-minute essentials to shoes, clothes, health and beauty products, gifts, toys, and magazines and books.

Each terminal includes a wide selection of cafes, restaurants and bars in which passengers can relax.
