Emergency Stairway Evacuation Chairs
Its core product – “The Evac+Chair”, was the world’s first, and still pre-eminent, global benchmark for Emergency Stairway Evacuation Chairs.
The Evac+Chair, winner of the Industrial Designers Society of America – Design of the Decade Award, is an ingenious, single operator, mechanical ‘stair chair’ utilising two endless traction belts to transport a mobility impaired individual down building stairs in a safe, smooth, controlled descent.
From its inception, the Evacuation Chair Evac+Chair has revolutionised evacuation techniques for the disabled from multi-storey buildings in an emergency, and is today accepted world-wide as providing the most efficient means of evacuation for the mobility impaired.
The Evac+Chair has proved its life-safety features in various emergency evacuations around the world, most notably during the World Trade Centre terrorist attacks, when it was credited with providing the crucial means of escape for several disabled survivors.
The Company began manufacturing the chair in 1985 and has steadily built the brand, selling over 50,000 units worldwide, to a diverse range of public and private/corporate sector customers. This has been achieved via its direct regional sales team in the UK and through dedicated international distributors.
Within the EU, the Evac+Chair must conform to the provisions of the Medical Devices Directive, 93/42/EEC (2002) which requires all such devices to carry the CE marking. However the Company has also type tested the Evac+Chair through TUV, NURD, an independent test house facility based in Germany.
The Evac+Chair remains perfectly positioned within an ever-expanding UK and international market to help satisfy government and corporate requirements for better accessibility, fire safety and evacuation planning codes in multi-storey buildings. There is an array of associated legislation within the UK, EU and wider international markets which continue to shape public and corporate awareness of fire-safety imperatives. Accordingly, the Evac+Chair and related services are investments that can help companies:
- Comply with relevant legislation
- Meets provision of safe building egress
- Aids fire-risk assessment and safety planning obligations.
The Company has made significant investments in new production facilities and product research and development, enabling it to extend its expertise into a select range of specialised EMS (emergency medical services) patient handling and transport equipment under its Paraid Medical division.
Turnkey Evacuation Chair Solutions
Few companies go from raw materials, through the processing and assembly, to sales and marketing, after sales service, and customer training. A continuous and dynamic process that does not end with sales, or service, or training, but feeds back to enable us to be responsive to customer needs.
The company offers a total 'turnkey' solution from site surveys and the manufacture and supply of the evacuation chair through to training and servicing.
Emergency Transport Solution for Mobility-Impaired Individuals
Paraid Medical focuses on high dependency patient transport and casualty handling solutions pre-hospital, for the UK NHS and NHS Ambulance Trusts (land and air ambulance services), and for in hospitals.
Paraid focuses on a value added strategy of working closely with clinicians, paramedics and other medical professionals to develop and license innovative products which offer: enhanced safety specifications, more efficient biomechanical design, ergonomic user interface as well as utilizing lighter/stronger composites. By combining these features with the Company’s core engineering expertise in traditional materials (i.e. stainless steel, aluminium, titanium), Paraid can achieve new standards of product performance.
