Hold Baggage Screening

The requirements for the screening of passenger baggage are becoming increasingly more rigorous. The majority of authorities already require 100% screening of hold baggage. The screening of all hold baggage presents problems in terms of maintaining levels of throughput within the baggage handling system and minimising delays and inconvenience to passengers.

Babcock Airports has solved these problems, with proven 100% HBS systems where there is no significant impact on passenger throughput. Our systems have been installed as extensions to existing baggage handling installations and incorporated in new projects. Our installations include Heathrow Terminals 1, 2 & 3 and Gatwick North Terminal in the UK and at many other international airports.

Baggage passes through a series of different screening operations – up to five levels in total. Those bags, which fail a particular screening level, are directed to the next for further analysis. Once each bag has been cleared it is released for flight sorting.
