Butler Heavy Structures Inspired Solutions for Complex Hangar Design and Construction
Butler Heavy Structures is an expert in hangar design and construction. We’ve designed over 100 hangars for commercial and military customers, ranging in size from 15,000 to 300,000 square feet (1400 to 28,000 square meters). Our ability to combine conventional steel and pre-engineered (pre-fabricated) components will help you achieve faster construction schedules and the lowest overall cost for your hangar.
Airport Hangar Design
Butler Heavy Structures is part of the BlueScope Steel family of companies. BlueScope is the world’s largest manufacturer of pre-engineered buildings, including the premier building system brand, Butler Buildings. This association allows Butler Heavy Structures to provide:
- Single-source supply of building shell components
- Optimized designs incorporating the efficiencies of building system components combined with conventional construction design
- The most specified metal roof system, Butler Manufacturing’s MR-24® standing seam metal roof system with 25-year weathertightness warranty
- Local construction expertise through the independent Butler Builder® network of general contractors.
Beyond Prefabricated Hangars
Our airport hangar design solutions frequently combine elements of pre-engineered buildings (sometimes mistakenly referred to as prefabricated) with conventional structural components to save you time and money. For instance, a recent conventional design for an aircraft hangar at a Naval Air Station contained 4,000 tons (over 3800 metric tonnes) of steel. The Butler Heavy Structures solution cut out 25% of the tonnage by combining conventional and pre-engineered components. The resulting cost and schedule savings helped the project stay on budget.
Scope of Services
Butler Heavy Structures specializes in large clear span structures like prefabricated hangars. We combine prefabricated and conventional steel to develop the most cost effective design solution. We can provide a wide scope of construction services ranging from the design and supply of the hangar building shell components to full-service turnkey design-build construction execution.
Butler Heavy Structures is based in the United States of America. Our design services can be provided in many countries with our entire range of direct construction services offered in the United States. However, because of our affiliation with BlueScope companies and builder networks throughout the world, we can find qualified builders virtually any place you want to put your hangar.
Hangar Facility
Building Green
At Butler, we combine green technologies with systems construction efficiencies to make sustainable building more affordable than ever. We can reduce the amount of steel required on your hangar through extensive testing and computer modeling, and in most cases these lighter weight structures can also reduce the size of footings and foundations—reducing the amount of concrete and steel used. Of course, steel itself is 100% recyclable and reusable. Utilization of our steel building systems can reduce utility costs, lifetime maintenance, and the amount of waste material created.
Butler systems have many certifications from sustainability organizations such as Energy Star® ratings and the Cool Roof Rating Council for its metal roofs. We are a member of the US Green Building Council, developers of the internationally recognized LEED building ranking system. At Butler Heavy Structures, we have LEED Accredited Professionals throughout the organization, helping you develop a sustainable hangar facility.
