In breaking news, it has been announced that protesters who have closed Bangkok’s two airports are to end their week-long occupation.

Hundreds of thousands of stranded tourists from across the world will now be allowed to leave.

Reports say that passenger flights from the main international airport, Suvarnabhumi, will begin on Thursday 4 December.

Both Suvarnabhumi, and the smaller Don Muang airport which handles domestic traffic, have been closed for 7 days after protesters besieged them.

The protesters are from a coalition called the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD), which accused the Thai Prime Minister, Somchai, of electoral fraud.

Earlier this week Thailand’s constitutional court ordered Somachi to resign and disband his party.

Victorious in its aim, the PAD has ended its protests paving the way for the airports to reopen.

The first international arrival into Suvarnabhumi is expected within 24 hours.

The occupation of the two airports has crippled Thailand’s economy and has stranded up to 350,000 tourists, according to the Thai Tourism Ministry.

People's Alliance for Democracy leader Sondhi Limthongkul said: "The People's Alliance for Democracy has agreed to cease protesting after a long-running 192-day campaign. We have won a victory and achieved our aims."
