George Galloway in Glasgow Airport Attack
Posted by Chris Lennox Hilton on 13/06/2007 - 10:20:09
George Galloway, the Respect Party MP for Bethnal Green and Bow, was kicked and verbally threatened in an unprovoked attack at Glasgow Airport on Sunday the 10th of June.
Mr Galloway was on a flight from London to Glasgow when the incident started brewing. Six men, who Mr Galloway believes were returning from an Orange Order Parade, began taunting him on the plane.
"'I had a feeling of dread," he later stated. "I hurried off the plane and got to the luggage carousel as quickly as possible and prayed my bag would come first but, of course, it didn't," he said afterwards.
"The group came up behind me and they were straight in with the sectarian insults and threats.
"I felt one man kick me on one ankle and I was then kicked on the other ankle." There was one guy I would describe as a ringleader who said: "I don't like your radio talk, I don't like your newspaper talk, I have a religious duty to knock you down."
Mr Galloway, who is remembered for his high profile appearance on the reality television programme 'Celebrity Big Brother', where he wore a red leotard and performed an impression of a cat licking cream from a saucer, also hosts a 'TalkSport' radio phone in.
The incident Glasgow Airport was being investigated and inquiries were "ongoing" a spokeswoman from Strathclyde Police said.
