Emirates to Run Five Heathrow A380 Flights/ Day

The Airbus A380 is set to become a more common sight operating in and out of London Heathrow Airport with carrier Emirates’ July 28th announcement of its intention to run five daily services into the hub.
Emirates president Tim Clark stated that the airline was ready to fill its present Heathrow slot quota with A380 flights, adding that, in his mind, it was pretty certain that demand for seats would meet the additional passenger spaces that this would create.

Emirates itself has now received its initial example of this technologically-advanced ‘superjumbo’.
The total fleet is set to ultimately comprise 58 A380s, making the airline this aircraft’s most prolific operator.
"We would not reduce the frequency of our services at Heathrow”, Mr Clark said.
A380 Fuel Efficiency
Emirates considers the A380 to be fuel-efficient since, for every 100 kilometres flown on an individual passenger basis, less than three litres of fuel are consumed. Modifications such as limiting the number of in-flight publications carried on board could act to further improve the airliner’s performance in this regard.

In addition to the A380s, Emirates also has orders standing for 72 Boeing 777 airliners.
The Airbus A380 first flew in April 2005 and entered airline service in October 2007 with Singapore Airlines.
British Airways has 12 A380s on order, the first of which should arrive in 2012, while Virgin Atlantic, meanwhile, should have its first of six in service a year later.
