ID Less Passengers Banned From Flying

ID Less Passengers Banned From FlyingThe US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has announced that passengers refusing to show ID at airport security checkpoints will no longer be able to fly.

The new rule comes into force on 21st June.

Announcing the change, the TSA said that the rule will apply only to individuals who refuse to provide ID or prevent officials from checking their identity through other means.

The rule does not affect passengers that "may have misplaced, lost or otherwise do not have ID but are co-operative with officers".

Passengers who do not have ID, but who are co-operative, will be subjected to additional security screening checks.

The TSA said these would include "enhanced physical screening, enhanced carry-on and/or checked baggage screening, interviews with behavior detection or law enforcement officers".

Airport Security Screening Lanes

In related US airport security news, the TSA has said that its airport security screening lanes programme is proving hugely popular with airports around the US.

As previously reported by Airport International, in February the TSA staged a trial at Denver International and Salt Lake City Airports, where the queues leading to security checkpoints were split up into three "checkpoint lanes" - one each for families, "expert" business travellers and casual travellers.

This proved successful, and the scheme is now in operation at no fewer than 21 airports - including Boston-Logan and Los Angeles International.

According to USA Today, another 20 airports will introduce the scheme over the summer months - with New York's John F. Kennedy and LaGuardia being added later this month.

Earl Morris, the TSA security chief in Salt Lake City, said: "We can't keep up with the demand".
