Airbus A380 Asia-Pacific tour imminent

Airbus A380Following its US and India tours in March/May 2007, the Airbus A-380 is set to now visit the Asia-Pacific region, embracing Japan, Australia and Taiwan.

This will take place between the 4th and 10th June; prior to that, the giant airliner will be undergoing airport compatibility trials at Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG).

The purpose of the tours is to ensure the Airbus A-380 enjoys an untroubled entry into service. Operating under normal airline conditions, the aircraft will be put through airport compatibility, ground handling and ease-of-maintenance checks at every destination included within its tour. Already, the A380 has undergone similar procedures at over 45 airports.

It is expected that 70 airports will be able to effectively manage A380 within four years.

Simultaneous to the tour, Airbus has been working on the initial batch of A380s to be delivered. The first airline to be depicted on the type is Singapore Airlines, with a painted example emerging from Airbus' Hamburg factory earlier this month. Singapore will begin using the A380 later this year.

The largest passenger airliner in the world, the Airbus A-380 first flew in April 2005, public-débuting spectacularly at the Paris Air Show less than two months later. Orders are currently in place from 15 airlines, including Virgin Atlantic and Air France.
