telerob aims 'To develop machines, devices and systems which protect or replace people in situations where they either cannot be used, or can only be employed with major risks.'
Whether for the disposal of dangerous explosive charges on airplanes or the dismantling of nuclear power systems, our products protect people in the surrounding areas.
Airplane EOD robots have become dominant in neutralising improvised explosive and incendiary devices. Their ability to operate at a safe standoff keeps bomb disposal engineers out of harm's way.
However, terrorist organisations have recently taken to targeting civilian aircraft and public transport systems. Most robots are unable to search for suspicious items in cramped areas such as underground railway carriages or aircraft passenger compartments.
True, a number of aircraft explosives removal systems are sufficiently compact that they can operate in these confined spaces. The problems start once they find a suspicious object. For example, until now, if a bomb has been concealed in an overhead luggage bin then no robot has been able to neutralise it effectively.
telerob engineers have developed a solution to this problem. They have designed a robot which, despite its extremely small dimensions, is capable of detecting and neutralising suspicious items even when concealed at a height of 2.4m.
