Midgley and Orange Ltd. company history: Incorporated in August 2005, Midgley & Orange Ltd. designed and built a demonstration vehicle, a single scissor-lift truck with a 4-ton payload based on a 15-ton chassis, in the first year of operation. This design is enhanced by the use of symmetrical lift-ram mounts which reduce internal stresses, thereby increasing overall safety and the reliability and longevity of the vehicle.

The wearing parts, with a 100-year design life, will seriously reduce down time and vehicle maintenance costs. Also the hydraulics are generously sized to reduce maintenance. Vehicles of this design have been running maintenance free for 15 years! As an environmentally aware company, Midgley & Orange Ltd. specifically designed the vehicle's hydraulics to use a biodegradable, vegetable-based and non-corrosive fluid. This vehicle is ideally suited to function as an inflight catering/cleaning and maintenance vehicle or ambulift for the airport support industry. The company has the ability to design all aircraft support equipment, including vehicles capable of servicing the new airbus A380.

Director's Personal backgrounds:

  • Philip Midgley, a design engineer for 30 years, designing everything from jet engines to computers to toilets. Worked in airport support industries in the early 90's as commercial manager for Austin Handling Ltd., the manufacturer of one of the simplest and most robust scissor-lift vehicles on the market. Seeing the potential of this design of vehicle, Philip has been trying to bring it to the market ever since Austin Handling ceased business.
  • Colin Orange, a service manager for the telecommunications industry for 15 years. With a keen eye for quality and commercial ethics.

Because sub-contractors are specially selected for all work, manufacturing capacity is not limited by a fixed facility capacity.
