IFATCA operates as a non-profit and non-political federation of Air Traffic Controllers' Associations, promoting safety, efficiency and regularity in International Air Navigation.

It assists and advises in the development of safe and orderly systems of Air Traffic Control, promoting and upholding a high standard of knowledge and professional efficiency among Air Traffic Controllers.

It seeks to protect and safeguard the interests of the Air Traffic Control profession, through close co-operation with national and international aviation authorities and other institutions or persons concerned with air navigation. Through its Journal “The Controller” it collects and distributes information on professional problems and developments for the purpose of promulgating and advancing matters of Air Traffic Control.
