Established in 1992, Cargo Training International is one of the world's leading Dangerous Goods Training Companies. The Head Office is located near London's Heathrow Airport and a US Branch Office is situated in Houston, Texas. The Company operates on a worldwide basis.
It is a legal requirement in the UK under the Air Navigation (Dangerous Goods) Regulations to hold a certificate of competence if you pack, handle or transport dangerous goods by air. Cargo Training International runs a full programme of courses for the public in the UK and the USA. All working material is drawn from the ICAO Technical Instructions (published every two years) and the IATA Dangerous Goods Manual (published every year). All Training Instructors are approved individually by the UK CAA and re-assessment is carried out at regular intervals. We also offer in company training - which is often cost effective when multiple trainees are required.
We offer courses which follow rules published under the European Road Regulations (ADR) and supplemented in the UK by a Statutory Instrument (SI 2007 No 1573). Under these regulations it is a requirement to undertake training much along the lines of the provisions for air.
In the USA a different set of regulations apply and are known as 49CFR. Our courses in the United States are based on these rules, although we do offer this training in the UK if required. Conversely we also offer the ADR training in the USA. Both these variations are on demand (in company).
Issued through the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) these regulations are known as the IMDG Code and have worldwide acceptance by all countries affiliated to the IMO. The rules are much akin to those for road and training is included. In the UK the Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA) is responsible for monitoring the regulations and use of the Marine Pollutants Act enables this body to enforce the Code when breaches are suspected.
Primarily this course is offered for transport by air and two public courses a year are offered at Heathrow. In addition we can offer modules for the transport of radioactive materials by road and sea but these are on demand and in company only. Although the general courses mentioned above deal with radioactive materials as a Class of dangerous goods it is not covered in any depth and for those who handle these materials on a regular basis additional training is required (by law - in the UK). A separate course is offered - approved by the UK CAA - for air.
The European Commission has issued a Directive (96/35/EC) on the appointment and vocational qualification of Safety Advisers for the transport of Dangerous Goods by Road, Rail and Inland Waterway. If you ship dangerous goods by any of these modes of transport you will need to appoint a Dangerous Goods Safety Adviser (DGSA).
We are offering a cost-effective training programme, which will cover all the essential elements of the syllabus necessary for the examination. The programme is in two parts and comprises of our standard Dangerous Goods by Road course which is followed by tuition on other relevant subjects.
This programme is designed for new entrants to the cargo industry and will be of particular interest to those employed in freight forwarding, airlines, cargo handling or the shipping departments of major exporters.
The course covers the old IATA/FIATA Diploma syllabus and has two elements. The first part concentrates on the basic understanding of the industry (3 days), and the second part of the course (2 days) covers an introduction to rating.
The Cargo Training International web site contains all the information that you will need to identify your training courses. Brief descriptions of each course can be found on the site together with dates and locations. Any additional information can always be sought from our office.
