Advanced L-3 system to screen cargo at key Asia airport
Woburn, MA, June 22, 2005 – L-3 Communications Security and Detection Systems, Inc. has received an order to provide the New Bangkok International Airport (NBIA), which is expected to handle more than 700,000 tons of cargo each year, with two CX-3800G high-energy X-ray cargo inspection systems. The systems will be deployed to the NBIA Cargo Free Zone IT Project with AMR Asia Co., Ltd. According to Allen Barber, president of L-3 Communications Security and Detection Systems, the CX-3800G combines key features, such as superior imaging and resolution with high-energy scanning, to offer customs officials unmatched performance and significant cost advantages.
"As the regulatory agency that oversees one of the busiest airports in Asia, Thai Customs requires a screening system that offers superior images of the contents of containers without disrupting throughput, and that is able to operate in the limited space available at the airport," said Barber. "L-3 is a leader in the development and worldwide deployment of cargo screening solutions, and is uniquely positioned to tailor a system to the specific needs of this region."
L-3's CX-3800G is a relocatable, gantry-style, high-energy X-ray cargo inspection system. The system is capable of inspecting trucks, ISO intermodal shipping containers, vans, automobiles, and any size ULD air cargo container. Each system utilises a 3.8 MeV high-energy X-ray that can penetrate more than ten inches (270 mm) of steel and achieves a throughput rate of approximately 25 full containers per hour. Digital Focus Co., Ltd., which acts as L-3's distributor and systems integrator in Thailand, also provides integration, training, and maintenance services to its customers.
