L3 X-ray Technology

L-3 Security & Detection Systems

As a result of September 11 terrorists attacks, pain staking detail has been placed in securing borders and perimeters of airports and seaports throughout the world.

With this in mind, security is at the forefront of planning and implementation for many airports and seaports. Screening of cargo is now very much at the forefront of security, as well as traditional screening of passengers and their luggage.

Screening of cargo

Every facility faces challenges when trying to implement container and freight X-ray scanning: physical space limitations, transportation of the containers to be screened, or high-traffic volume. L-3 Security & Detection Systems recognizes that it is not enough to merely understand security needs. We work closely with customers to provide solutions that meet the ongoing needs of seaports including mobile, re-locatable or fixed-building X-ray structures. For airports, networked pallet X-Ray screening is seen as a practical and effective solution for screening airfreight.

L-3 recently supplied Dutch Customs with the CX2500 (2.5MeV) mobile X-ray system (pictured) for use at the Port of Rotterdam. This system achieves a penetration of 200mm of steel while maintaining clear, sharp image for operators. The CX2500 system enables users to inspect at high-volumes of cargo with large consignments. Mounted on a standard Volvo chassis and legal to drive on public roads, the CX2500 mobile system proves is most effective for screening at various locations within a large port or screening at several ports.

How effective is L-3 Cargo Screening equipment? Using L-3 X-ray technology users can:

  • Check consignments against their manifest paperwork in minutes.
  • Find guns, weapons, knives and explosives can be easily found, even when hidden withincontainer.
  • Detect illegal passengers.
  • Spot drugs and other contraband.
