SubscribeNEW YORK, NY, March 4, 2003 L-3 Communications (NYSE: LLL) announced today that its Security and Detection Systems division has been awarded the first ever hold baggage systems (HBS) contract in Poland.
Security and Detection Systems will supply Poland's Warsaw Frederick Chopin Airport with automatic inspection systems for 100% hold baggage inspection.
The contract is valued at just over $1 million. The contract specifies delivery of VIS 108 automated hold baggage systems for the inspection of check-in luggage. Deliveries will begin in May 2003.

This tender with Polish Airports State Enterprises (PPL) has allowed L-3 Communications the opportunity to pool our financial, technical, and business resources to gain entry into an untouched HBS business market," said Joseph S. The VIS 108 automated hold baggage-screening systems, equipped with L-3’s advanced Scatter Detection Enhancement (SDE) and Threat Image Projection (TIP), automatically screen checked baggage for explosives and sort suspicious baggage to Level 2 and 3 screening. The automated units are easily integrated into the existing baggage transport systems and screen a throughput of up to 1,800 bags per hour, ensuring quick and reliable explosive screening.
With a broad range of systems and technology, and an installed base of over 18,000 units, L-3 Security and Detection Systems business offers X-ray screening for several major security applications: aviation systems for checked and oversized baggage, cargo and air freight; port and border applications; and facility protection.
