Kiel Company also makes A 380 Airborne.
Kiel. For ten years now, one focus of interest at Rheinmetall Landsysteme GmbH (RLS) in Kiel has been the development and production of gas turbine-powered air start units which are used to start aircraft engines. These units, totalling more than 450, are in service successfully around the world both in the civilian and military sector.
As part of the development of the new A 380 airbus, the European Airbus consortium purchased three MSU 400 V air start units from Kiel for their locations in Hamburg and Toulouse. These air start units are capable of starting even the world’s largest passenger aircraft. The three RLS air start units were shipped in the first half of 2005.
The MSU 400 V showed very effectively what it could do during the startup and first flight of the A 380 in Toulouse.
In RLS’ opinion, this reference is an important milestone in the further development of international markets.
