L-3’s advanced MVT-HR technology to help secure 2008 Olympic Games

L-3 Communications (NYSE: LLL) announced today that its Security and Detection Systems subsidiary will supply Beijing Capital International Airport (BCIA) with its MVT-HR multi-view tomography explosives detection systems. L-3 will initially design, install, and maintain 22 MVT-HR systems, as well as provide 81 operator workstations for the BCIA Terminal 3 hold-baggage screening system. BCIA is the host airport for the 2008 Summer Olympic Games.

Designed to meet the most stringent explosives detection standards of regulatory agencies worldwide, the MVT-HR's high-resolution technology and patented state-of-the-art image processing offer the best onscreen threat resolution and analysis capacity currently available in a multi-view computed tomography explosives detection system.

"We are extremely pleased that BCIA has chosen L-3 as a key supplier for this critically important airport expansion initiative," said Thomas Ripp, president of L-3 Security and Detection Systems. "The integration of the MVT-HR hold-baggage system in Terminal 3 underscores not only BCIA's confidence in our superior technology and expertise, but also marks an important milestone in our relationship with China."

In late 2005, the MVT-HR was among several L-3 explosives detection systems to receive explosives detection certification from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC). "We are honored to be part of the growth of China's burgeoning aviation industry," Mr. Ripp added.

He concluded, "The win at BCIA against established competitors signals L-3's entry and long-term commitment to the growing Chinese aviation market. L-3 was chosen for its ability to provide a multilevel, networkable solution with throughput capacity to match the needs of a large and growing international air hub. The networked MVT-HR screens up to 1,800 bags per hour and easily accepts out-of-gauge items. L-3 will increase its presence in China and be a major player in providing screening solutions to airports in that country."

Some of the world's most security-minded airports, including London's Heathrow, Amsterdam's
Schiphol, and Australian airports serviced by the Qantas Group, also use the networkable MVT-HR to screen hold baggage for explosives.
