As part of TAG Aviation development of Farnborough Airport new increased capacity aviation fuel storage and re-fueller loading facilities were required to meet the forecast increase in flights.

In a joint venture between TAG Aviation and Shell Aviation, Trident Engineering Consultants were employed to design and build the new tank farm installation.

TAG Aviation in conjunction with their airport redevelopment designers and contractors constructed the civil works.

The development is designed around strict environmental impact assessments and conforms with the latest environmental agency guidelines.

The storage tanks are contained with primary and secondary bunds and are supplied from a dedicated unloading bay with failsafe driver operated earth and overspill prevention.

The refuellers are similarly filled by driver operated complete with earth and overspill prevention with two vehicles loading simultaneously.

All samples are taken through closed sampling systems with product returned to a product recovery tank which is also used for thermal pressure relief returns.

Tank product level is controlled through high and low level alarms and pump shut off controls.

The pipework and structural installation was carried out on behalf of Trident by WW Pipetech, Connahs Quay, Deeside and the electrical and instrumentation by McArthur Electrical, Livingston, Scotland.

The works were successfully commissioned during May 2003.
