Smiths Detection’s automatic explosive detection baggage x-ray and checkpoint x-ray systems selected for major Chinese airport’s security upgrade project.

Smiths Detection, a world leading provider of x-ray and trace detection systems, today announced that it has won a multi million dollar contract to supply x-ray systems to Zhengzhou International Airport. Under the contract, part of the airport upgrade project, Smiths Detection will supply seven checked baggage systems, including HI-SCAN10080 EDtS inline automatic explosive detection checked baggage machines, and 27 HI-SCAN systems to screen carry-on luggage, including oversize baggage. Delivery is to be completed by the end of this year.

Mal Maginnis, President of Smiths Detection Asia Pacific, said "This contract with Zhengzhou International Airport confirms Smiths Detection's significant position as a major supplier of checked and carry-on baggage systems in the rapidly expanding China aviation security market. Customers increasingly prefer to come to us for all their screening technology needs, rather than having to deal with a raft of individual suppliers.

We believe that both the economic and efficiency benefits gained from dealing with us as the single vendor will be significant for Zhengzhou International Airport, over the long term. Smiths Detection has worked closely with the design authorities on systems for this important security upgrade project and looks forward to playing a key role in ensuring the integrity of security at Zhengzhou International Airport in the future."

Last month Smiths Detection announced another major airport deal in China, a multi-million dollar contract to supply x-ray systems to screen carry-on luggage at Shanghai Pudong International Airport.
