Latest research indicates a surge in demand for talent
M&A activities drive management demand
A new survey conducted by aviation headhunters Marlborough, has revealed the industry will experience a significant increase in recruitment activity over the next year.
The research, polling the company's key aviation clients, underlined the trend that hiring in the sector is witnessing a tremendous resurgence. The recent rise in merger and acquisition activity, coupled with traditional job movements has made recruitment for middle and senior management the liveliest for many years.
The survey polled a total of 112 Senior and Middle Management responsible for recruiting within the aviation sector spanning airlines, airports, Aerospace Companies and Service Operating Companies. The results of the poll indicate that the overall outlook is very good, with 80% of companies likely to hire this year. Furthermore, 76% of the hires will either be new positions in existing parts of the organization, or as a result of expansion.
New entrants to the aviation market
As some of the companies polled were new or potential entrants to the aviation market this may not come as a surprise. However, most of the growth was coming from established companies who are experiencing a sharp upturn in fortunes. Most of this growth is being channeled through either operations or commercial (75%), which emphases the favorable economic situation many of these companies are experiencing - including airlines that historically have been unable to make any profit.

The employment market itself is changing significantly now that companies from outside the aviation sector are reinventing themselves as airport owners and operators. Rather than using an executive search consultancy with a broad remit, the survey showed that these operators are increasingly looking for specialist firms with aviation pedigree and key aviation contacts.
