Indian Oil Skytanking successfully starts Aviation Fuelling operations at the new Bangalore International airport
Hamburg / Bangalore, Tuesday 3rd June 2008 - Midnight on the 23rd May marked the opening of the greenfield Bangalore International Airport, and the start of fuelling operations by Indian Oil Skytanking Limited, a joint venture of Skytanking, Indian Oil, and Indian Oiltanking.
Indian Oil Skytanking was awarded a 20-year concession by Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) in 2006 to design, finance, construct and operate the aviation fuel storage and hydrant system at the greenfield airport. Indian Oil Skytanking also won one of the two into-plane fuelling licences issued by BIAL.
Fuel Storage System
The fuel storage and hydrant system was constructed to the highest international standards for aviation fuel and was successfully completed in time for the first night of commercial flight operations on the 23rd May. The project was the first build, own, operate and transfer (BOOT) project for an aviation fuel storage and hydrant system in India.
Indian Oil Skytanking's into-plane service also got off to a flying start by refuelling the first flight to depart the new airport, Air India's Airbus A320 IC 957 to Singapore. In the first 24 hours, Indian Oil Skytanking went on to refuel
aircraft from all the major Indian and overseas airlines, including Boeing 747's operated by Lufthansa and British Airways. Due to good training and expertise from Europe, Indian Oil Skytanking is the first company in India to refuel using a single into-plane operator per flight.
Skytanking is a subsidiary of Marquard & Bahls AG of Germany, a leading independent petroleum company. Skytanking is active in all fields of aviation fuelling, refuelling 650,000 aircraft and handling some 5 billion litres of aviation fuel per year. The company specialises in the financing, building and operating airport storage and hydrant systems for airlines, airports and oil companies. Skytanking is represented at 20 airports within Europe, the USA and now India.
