Visual Defence completes AIR Canada Toronto operation center video system on-time and on-budget
Visual Defence Supplies Air Canada with Software Upgrade and Equipment to Increase Operational Efficiencies
RICHMOND HILL, ONTARIO - March 21, 2007 - Visual Defence Inc. (LSE: VDI), the security convergence company, today announced the completion of the successful upgrade of Air Canada's Station Operation Centre (STOC) at Toronto's Pearson Airport. Visual Defence upgraded the airline's Virtual Matrix System (VMS) to provide increased operational efficiencies to STOC, allowing for better command and control of Air Canada's CCTV surveillance system used for operations.
Video Control Management
VMS is a comprehensive management application for live and recorded video control and monitoring. VMS integrates analog systems with IP technology and uses open platforms to connect with cameras, video recorders, encoders and other equipment from multiple manufacturers to offer full flexibility in system design while delivering complete control to a common management system.
Air Canada is a tenant of Pearson Airport which is run by the Greater Toronto Airport Authority (GTAA). Air Canada's VMS System is part of a larger VMS System that controls CCTV surveillance for the entire airport. The multi-tenant capabilities of the VMS provide significant cost-savings for all GTAA tenants by allowing tenants to share operational cameras that monitor common areas.
Visual Defence delivered this project in conjunction with technology partner, Bell Security Systems Inc. (BSSI). The goal of the project was to move Air Canada's STOC facility from Terminal 2 to Terminal 1 and to upgrade the STOC video services to increase operational efficiencies.
Visual Defence was responsible for project management and completed the project within the scheduled five-month timeframe and within the budget. The STOC facility went into full production mode on February 20th, 2007.
"We are very pleased that we are able to begin using the new STOC facility as scheduled," said Thor Hoff, Manager, IT Infrastructure Projects, Air Canada YYZ Hub Development.
"The new STOC video system, with its increased functionality, enhances Air Canada's ability to manage and monitor operational video from multiple sources around the airport. Improvements to the CCTV system, such as simplified camera names with location information, allows for significant improved efficiencies by eliminating the need for operators to cross-reference video feeds with facility maps. This was the second major video project completed by Visual Defence for Air Canada at Pearson Airport, and once again, we are very pleased with the results."
“Air Canada's new STOC video system gives operators an unprecedented level of control and flexibility to monitor locations throughout the airport," said Dagan Sadeh, CEO of Visual Defence. "The VMS is an important component of the airline's operations system and is fully scalable to allow the airline the ability to expand its surveillance system as required."
Visual Defence also supplied 18 40" LCD Monitors for use on the command and control video wall of the STOC as well as with the Air Canada internal ACTV employee communications system. In the STOC, each monitor has multiple inputs to provide the ability to display information from various external sources, including the CCTV system, satellite, and lighting detection system (LDS), flight position information, and FIDS.
Additionally, the STOC manager has the ability to control what is displayed on each monitor. Pre-programmed monitor presets allow for quick display changes in the case of emergency or irregular operations conditions.
