SubscribeNewcastle International Airport is a modern regional airport serving the North East, and it is used by a growing number of airlines.
Newcastle Airport chose once again a Densit flooring solution because they had previously used a Densiphalt® pavement with success. So, in order to repeat business, the customer wanted a 50 mm Densiphalt® in standard grey colour to cover an area of approx. 2,450 m2 in an aircraft hangar (stands 7-10).
The works were carried out in two phases for less disruption to the airport traffic. The first phase of application covered 1,860 m2, and the second application covered 600 m2. The customer had several demands to the pavement such as hard wearing and durable running surface in order to withstand heavy loadings, both static and dynamic loadings.
The advantage of using Densiphalt® in airport areas is its fast curing and application time, a joint-less surfacing system, skid resistance, impermeability and fuel resistance.
For the new build application Densit a/s and Civil Industrial Ltd. supplied the mortar, and Tarmac National Contracting Ltd. supplied the base course/open graded asphalt layers.
