Atkins are retained by London City Airport (LCY) to provide masterplanning advice for the long term development of the airport. Planning and forecasting are essential to the strategic development of any airport.
The forecast establishes the need and potential of the airport, recognising economic and social requirements of the environs of the airport and worldwide considerations of the aviation industry. Forecasts consider both the short-term and long-term development periods, and are refined as the development progresses and potential users are identified.
The master plan defines the form and structure required to meet the forecast. This can either be a new development, an extension or enhancement of an existing airport.
At London City Airport, we assisted LCY in enhancing their business operations by incorporating these into a civil engineering project through:
- An ordered approach to project and opportunity appraisal based on client values
- Innovation in the management of risk and opportunity, through, for example, the use of the various procurement routes, incentivisation and collaborative working
- Maintaining continuity of operational safety, security and revenue based activities during the implementation stage
- Vision in the management of regulatory and other statutory issues
