Safegate's Airfield Smart Power Catching On In North American Airports

With the recent announcement of Airfield Smart Power® (ASP) orders for airports in New Castle, Delaware and St. John's, Newfoundland, the number of ASP installations in the U.S. and Canada has grown to double digits.

"While that may not sound like a large number," commented Safegate Airport System's president, Tom Duffy, "we are extremely pleased with this progress in just two years against some very entrenched competitors. We view the real test of the technology's performance to be the number of repeat orders and system expansions requested by our customers and already we have completed four expansions with commitments for several more this year."

The ASP system, which uses the existing series circuit to send signals to individual fixtures, will control and monitor the new LAHSO bar at New Castle while St. John's is using ASP to control lead-in lights to the deicing pad. Both systems were supplied through Safegate's strategic partner, Liberty Airport Systems. Liberty's trained technicians are also providing the installation, commissioning and training services of the ASP systems.

Other North American airports with Safegate ASP installations are Houston Hobby, Houston Bush Intercontinental, San Jose, Spokane, Manchester, Halifax and Winnipeg. The total number of ASP installations worldwide reached 100 in 2006.

Safegate Airport Systems, Inc. is the wholly-owned subsidiary of Safegate International AB of Malmö, Sweden. Safegate was the pioneer in the development of addressable airfield lighting systems on the series circuit and remains the leading provider of such technology today. Liberty Airport Systems was founded two years ago by long-time industry professionals well known in the industry. They have offices in Burlington, Ontario and Oklahoma.
