SubscribeThe SL04 is a low intensity omni-directional aviation obstruction light, and meets the I.C.A.O. and C.A.A. requirements.
The SL04 Xenon Strobe Light has been specially designed for use as an Aircraft Warning Light for marking hazards to air navigation. The SL04 provides a superior warning signal to ICAO standard low intensity filaments or neon lamp fittings.
The Xenon flash tube with its acknowledged ability to penetrate poor visibility and hazy conditions provides a highly visible flashing output many times in excess of the comparable filament or neon fitting.
Having no filament the SL04 is immune to vibration and therefore ideally suited for use on Telecommunication Towers, Off-Shore Platforms and other similar structures.
Also, low power consumption makes it particularly suited for battery and solar powered systems.
Using conservative design parameters the SL04 flash tube has a very long expected life comparable to neon lamps, i.e. 20-25,000 hours.
Vertical ribbing on the inside of the lens provides a penetrating flash through the full height of the dome and by careful positioning of the tube within the dome, the lens magnifies and provides a maximum 360° output to around 4° above the horizon which is ideal for aircraft warning
For ease of maintenance the flash tube is mounted inside the glass lens in a specially sealed integral lamp holder with colour coded flying leads to avoid wrong connection when lamp changing. The leads are simply plugged into the single main circuit board housed in the base along with the electronic circuitry, discharge capacitor, flash rate adjuster and incoming supply and earth terminals. Cable entry is via the side of the aluminium base enclosure.
