Latest improvement allows for enhanced communications and radar functionality
Adacel, an industry leader in software integration, simulation development, and speech recognition technology, announced today that it has completed an upgrade to Nav Portugal's Oceanic Air Traffic Management (ATM) system.
The NAV Portugal ATM system, which utilizes Adacel's Aurora Oceanic ATM automation software, controls international air traffic in the Santa Maria Oceanic flight region of the North Atlantic.
With this latest upgrade, Adacel provides software modifications to support Controller Pilot Data Link Communications and a gateway to display radar data to controllers from the recently installed radar in Santa Maria.
"We are extremely pleased to announce these latest upgrades for NAV Portugal. These enhancements enable us to strengthen our support of NAV Portugal and brings significant new capabilities to their systems," said Fred Sheldon, Adacel's North American CEO. "We have had a long and mutually beneficial relationship with NAV Portugal, and these latest upgrades further demonstrate the continuing need for innovation in air traffic management simulation and partners like NAV Portugal that can effectively deploy that innovation to the benefit of their constituencies."
Operational trials of FANS-1/A Controller Pilot Data Link Communications (CPDLC) in the Santa Maria Oceanic Control Area successfully commenced today using the newly upgraded system. The radar interface will increase the accuracy and the frequency of the surveillance data, thus allowing for reduced separation in a specific sector of the Santa Maria FIR.
Alexandre Oliveira, a member of the NAV Portugal Board of Directors, stated that the upgrade allows NAV Portugal to implement improved air traffic services in the Santa Maria FIR.
