Barco and Lockheed Martin marked the occasion of the delivery of the 5,000th display with a ceremony on 25 August at Barco’s Duluth, Georgia, facility. Executives from the two companies were on hand, along with many Barco employees involved in the Q-70 program.
“We’re pleased that we have been able to deliver such a large number of our systems, but it’s especially significant to us because it is truly indicative of the strong partnership we’ve developed with Lockheed Martin,” said Dave Scott, president of Barco North America. “It gives all of us at Barco great pride to be able to play a key role in bringing such dynamic technology to the U.S. Navy.”
Barco’s RFD 251S rugged flat displays are specifically engineered for use in mission-critical naval applications. The displays feature a 20.1 inch MIL-tailored rugged flat display, meeting the most demanding shock, temperature, and vibration standards. Barco’s unique front bonding process eliminates condensation, and ensures superior optical performance under all conditions.
The units selected by Lockheed Martin also feature Automatic Phase Adjust technology, ensuring clear and sharp images, as well as the Barco patented LCD Flicker Compensation (LFC) solution. LFC enables naval operators to view acoustic sonar images without the constant flicker that is typically characteristic of high density graphic data presented on a Liquid Crystal Display.
In addition to RFD251 displays, Barco has provided a large number of sophisticated graphics generators and video frame grabbers for Lockheed Martin. These products are integrated into a wide range of U.S. Navy applications, including Virginia-, Seawolf-, Los Angeles- and Ohio-class submarines, Aegis-equipped cruisers and destroyers, aircraft carriers, E-2C aircraft and various amphibious ships.
